Naga Pooja 2025 was performed at Ambalavattam Temple, Thalassery on Friday 22 August 2025. This corresponds to Ayilyam nakshatram on 6 Chingam 1201 M.E. (Malayalam Era).
Pooja Program
The pooja was Noorum Palum, from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm. Sri Thirumangalath Satheeshan Namboothiri was the thantri. Sri Muralidharan Shanthy supported the thanthri in carrying out the pooja. All devotees got the prasadam.

Noorum Palum
Every year during Naga Pooja we offer Noorum Palum at Ambalavattam Temple. We proffer the pooja to Nagaraja and Naga Yakshi to ward off the evil effects of Sarpa Dosham and Rahu Dosham. The belief is that by offering Noorum Palum to the Naga devas, we get their blessings for the well-being of all the family members. The main ritual consists of bathing the deities with milk mixed with rice powder. Later the deities get a shower of turmeric powder. Afterwards there was Ganapathi Homam and Devi pooja.
Apart from Noorum Palum, other offerings to the Nagam include Sarpa Bali, Kadali Pazham Nivedyam, Palpayasam and Appa Nivedyam.

The Legend Behind Noorum Palum
The legend goes that Lord Vishnu had nursed the burns of snakes using a blend of turmeric powder, arecanut flowers and tender coconut water. The mixture goes by the name of Noor. The snakes regained health after the treatment using Noor. This transpired on the day of the Ayilyam nakshatram. The star is therefore believed to be auspicious for the worship of the Naga devas. The nakshatra’s symbol is a coiled serpent. Male cat is the animal symbol for Ayilyam nakshatram.

The Devotees and Family Members
Many family members travelled from near and far to Ambalavattam Temple for Naga Pooja 2025. Many of them made generous donations to the temple. Those who could not make it, remitted funds to the temple and offered vazhipadu.
They were served a sadya on the verandah of the tharawad house. The chef was Sri Muralidharan Shanthy and he cooked up the delicious meals on banana leaves for 40 people.
