Navaratri Pooja 2025 celebrations at Ambalavattam Temple Thalassery began on Monday 22 September and concluded on Thursday 2 October on Vijayadasami day. The celebrations had the usual fervour.
Significance of Navaratri Pooja 2025
Due to a rare lunar alignment, the 2025 Navratri unusually stretched for ten days, offering a longer period for devotion and festivities. The significance of Navaratri lies in the spiritual renewal, community engagement and alignment with divine energies. The festival honours the nine forms of Goddess Durga (Navadurga), each representing different virtues like strength, wisdom and compassion.

Visitors to the Temple
Family members travelled to the temple during Navaratri Pooja 2025. They came not only from Thalassery but also Kannur, Mumbai, Kochi, Kozhikode, Chennai and so on. Those who could not visit the temple, remitted funds and offered vazhipadus.
The History of Navaratri
Navratri marks the killing of the demon Mahishasura and the victory of good over evil. The account begins with Lord Brahma blessing Mahishasura with the gift of immortality to acknowledge his immense dedication. But the boon came with one condition: only a woman would be able to conquer him. Mahishasura did not believe that a woman would be capable of defeating him. So he harassed and terrorised the hapless people on earth. The Gods could not put an end to the nightmare.
Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva then joined forces and created goddess Durga to destroy Mahishasura. They equipped her with several weapons. The battle between Durga Devi and Mahishasura lasted ten days. He assumed various appearances to mislead the Goddess. But when he finally took on the form of a giant buffalo, Durga Devi beheaded the demon with the Sudarshana Chakra which Lord Vishnu had armed her with.
Pooja Timings and Decorations
The darshan timings were stretched during Navaratri. The timings were: mornings 5:30 to 9:00 am and evenings 6:00 to 7:30 pm. Muralidhara Shanti decorated the temple with flowers and illumination. He purchased some of the flowers from Kozhikode.
Ayudha Pooja

In Kerala the final three days of Navaratri, Ashtami, Navami and Vijayadashami, are set aside for the worship of Goddess Saraswathi. She is the goddess of wisdom and learning. Devotees place books and tools in the pooja rooms of homes, workshops and temples for worship on Ashtami day.
Benefits of Navaratri Pooja
Navaratri pooja offers spiritual growth and worldly benefits, including inner peace, wisdom and confidence. It removes negativity, evil forces and curses, bringing health, wealth and prosperity. The practice also leads to purification of the body and mind through fasting and other rituals.
